Rod East began his career with Volkswagen as the General Manager of Inter-Continental Motors Corporation in 1963. Intercontinental Motors was the distributorship for Volkswagen and Porsche for a five state area, which included Texas, Oklahoma, Colorado, Wyoming, and New Mexico. Inter-Continental Motors was located in San Antonio, Texas at 3303 Broadway.
Rod East had an opportunity to continue his career with Volkswagen in 1969 as a Volkswagen dealer. He built Rod East Volkswagen in 1969, which opened its doors on August 15,1970. Rod East Volkswagen stood exactly where it stands today, at 1402 NE Loop 410, and is the only exclusive Volkswagen dealership left in the state.
